Hailing from Northern Italy's Piedmont region, this grape is known to producing powerful, full-bodied tannic wines. This wine is from 25-year-old vines located in the municipality of Neive which has rich Tortonian soil. Ruby red in color with light orange reflections, this wine delays aromas of violet, cherry, raspberry, strawberry and spices. The palate is full, harmonious, refined and balanced.
Cuisine Suggestions: Try this with rustic Italian flare, This full tannin wine, pairs well with foods that feature fat, butter and olive oil. Nothing too lean.
Nero D' Avola:
If you are a serious red drinker and love a full-bodied dry red like a Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage or Syrah then you should try this varietal which originates from Sicily. Shows fruit-forward characteristics but it is also driven by its acidity.
"The Black Grape of Avola" appears to have been selected by growers near Avola (a small town in south east Sicily) several hundred years ago. Initially, it was confined to the southern tip of the island but more recently has spread throughout the island. The vine likes hot and relatively dry climates.
